Content and Learning

Mission

Girl at desk

The mission of the DPI Content and Learning Team is to enhance the scope and quality of teaching and learning in Wisconsin schools through leadership, innovation, collaboration, communication, and service.

Key strategies for accomplishing this mission include:

  • Effective professional development for school personnel, organizations, and agencies.
  • Leadership in development and dissemination of curriculum standards and resources.
  • Advocacy on behalf of effective local, state, and federal policies and practices in the content areas.
  • Collaboration to utilize current technologies and data for educational improvement.
  • Identification and dissemination of best educational practices.
  • Leadership to embrace diversity and a global perspective in education.
  • Securing and managing specialized funding to support local initiatives.

The launch of Common Core State Standards for Literacy in All Subjects at DPI represents a shift in thinking of literacy across subject areas. Originally a separate literacy section in the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts, Wisconsin has separated the standards to illustrate the importance that literacy has in Wisconsin classrooms, from kindergarten through 12th grade, in every subject.
