First Day of School

Just before the first day of school began in Milwaukee, Sept. 1, 2011,
State Supt. Tony Evers joined Milwaukee Supt. Gregory Thornton,
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, State Rep. JoCasta Zamarripa, and
other local education leaders to literally ring in the new year
in the neighborhood around Albert E. Kagel School.

One kindergartener, Hector Burgos, was so eager for his first day of school
that he came early to stand in the spot where his class was to line up
and steadfastly remained there throughout the morning's proceedings.
