Wisconsin Graduation Summit: Every Child a Graduate

Each year nearly 7,000 Wisconsin students drop out of school. Without earning a diploma, as adults these people possess a much greater chance of becoming unemployed, incarcerated, and on government assistance – adding a burden to an already strained system.

In response to a national call for increasing school graduation rates, State Superintendent Evers convened a one day state summit of local teams with the theme "Every Child a Graduate." The design and delivery of the summit was based on guidance and support from the America’s Promise Alliance, national corporations, and state associations. The purpose of the summit was to build local capacity by sharing best practice strategies that increase graduation rates, especially among students of color and students with disabilities. Due to limited resources, the summit was limited to teams from the 57 districts that were selected based on high rates and/or disparities in dropouts.
