State Superintendent’s Family Advisory Council for Engagement

The State Superintendent’s Family Advisory Council for Engagement (FACE) provides advice to the state superintendent on family engagement in student learning. The FACE offers members the opportunity to learn about state education programs and priorities while encouraging parents to share information about effective practices in their schools and communities. FACE members work to:

  • foster communication and engagement of parents and family members to ensure every child graduates college and career ready;
  • share information on positive programs and resources to increase student achievement and close gaps; and
  • provide a family voice to efforts of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

Vision

Engaged families creating a better Wisconsin together.

Mission

FACE advises the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction on the ongoing needs of Wisconsin students and families by engaging with them in their local communities and amplifying their voices. FACE champions the voices of students and families, approaches challenges from multiple directions and perspectives, and promotes results-driven accountability to advance equitable, transformative, and sustainable educational experiences for all Wisconsin learners.

Family Advisory Council for Engagement Members

Council members are nominated to serve on the council and approved by the Office of the State Superintendent. Members must be parents, family members, caregivers, or legal guardians of students who are currently in a public school, private school, charter school, or home school. The State Superintendent appoints FACE members based on factors including but not limited to the following:

  • knowledge, skills, and experience related to education and/or family/stakeholder engagement
  • relationship of nominee to family stakeholder groups
  • geographic diversity
  • representation of marginalized communities

Members are asked to attend all FACE meetings; communicate what they learn at FACE meetings with their schools; and share family engagement ideas, practices, and questions from their district at FACE meetings. Members receive no payment or stipend, other than reimbursement of travel expenses.
