Updated District Registration Materials Now Available!

The new Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy registration form and updated guide are now available on the DPI’s Seal of Biliteracy webpage, along with a promotional video and an informational webinar that provides an overview of the Seal of Biliteracy program and the registration process.

The DPI has simplified the approval process for districts wishing to implement the program. Districts can now participate in the program by:

  1. Submitting a Seal of Biliteracy registration form and
  2. Completing a DPI Seal of Biliteracy orientation session. A live version of the informational webinar will be held on May 5, 2025 from 3:30-4:30 PM.
Register for the Seal of Biliteracy Webinar here.

Districts are also encouraged to prepare for success by following the recommendations in the updated Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy District Planning, Registration, and Implementation Guide.

What is the Seal of Biliteracy?

  • state-level, industry-recognized credential
  • administered by school districts
  • recognizes high school students who have demonstrated proficiency in English and one or more additional languages, such as Spanish, Hmong, German, or Ojibwe.

In our increasingly interconnected world, knowing two or more languages and being able to interact effectively with people across cultures is more important than ever. Since 2015, the Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy has offered school districts a way to celebrate the linguistic skills of students, including multilingual learners, heritage language speakers, and world language learners. Last year, 654 students in Wisconsin earned the Seal of Biliteracy in 28 languages!

The Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy not only recognizes individual students, but also promotes the benefits of multilingualism and intercultural skills and elevates the status of language education programs that prepare students for the workplace and the world. To that end, the updated Seal of Biliteracy materials are being released in conjunction with the State Superintendent’s proclamation recognizing April as Wisconsin Multilingual/Bilingual Learner Advocacy Month.

Register now to implement the Seal of Biliteracy and join the ever growing number of school districts in Wisconsin, and around the nation, recognizing students’ multilingualism as a critical component of college, career, and community readiness!
