DPI Media Line, (608) 266-3559MADISON — State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly today released the following statement regarding Gov. Tony Evers’ 2025-27 biennial budget, representing a significant investment into Wisconsin public education and libraries.
“As the Trump administration presses forward with its reckless and destructive slash-and-burn operation impacting Wisconsin’s children and families, historic state investments into public education are not just needed, they are critical to our state’s survival.
“Gov. Evers has made his priorities clear, and his $3.1 billion education budget reflects his commitment to our children's well-being. I am heartened that he has incorporated many of my proposals and is committed to reinvesting in public schools and libraries — embracing 2025 as ‘The Year of the Kid’ — all while holding property taxes flat.
“Our kids and their families are urgently calling for additional support in mental health, food security, and more academic opportunities. After more than a decade of chronic underfunding by the legislature, our schools are facing dire financial strain, and our educators have long been underpaid and undervalued.
“By investing in education, we are not only addressing the needs of our children and educators but also strengthening our communities and securing a better future. It is time for legislators to put aside political games and listen to the people — the students, families, teachers, and communities of Wisconsin — and pass this budget. Our children’s futures depend on it.”
