School/Working LEA/Working School/Working School Number

The Working School Number is the DPI-assigned school number where the staff member's assignment is performed. It must be a valid school number for the Working LEA. 0000 is a valid school number for some records. Working School Number format is four digits with padded leading zeros accepted, but not required, e.g., 0001.

Working LEA: This must be a valid DPI-assigned LEA number of the agency where an assignment is performed. This field applies to staff members who work in an agency that is different from the hiring agency and often used for subcontractors. 

USES: This data element links a particular school in an LEA to reported records in WISEstaff.

FAQs, Details, and Points to Note

  1. Working School Number Definition: This is the four-digit code assigned by DPI for the location within the LEA where the assignment is performed. A Working School Number of 0000 may be valid for this data element under the following certain circumstances:
    • If the hiring LEA is a CESA or CCDEB and the working LEA is a CESA or CCDEB, the Working School Number can equal 0000.
    • If the working LEA is not a 2R charter, 0000 is a valid Working School Number for 53/0840, 53/0841 and 53/0935 but not for any other 53/assignment combination, nor for positions 51, 52 and 84. 0000 is valid for all other positions not mentioned here.
    • A Working School Number of 0000 is not a valid number for the 2R charter schools.
  2. The following position/assignment codes may be reported with a Working School Number of 0000, only if the individual worked at more than five locations. DPI will be monitoring these cases closely and may rescind this waiver in the next reporting period:
