PBS Wisconsin Education’s Wisconsin Biographies connects Tibet and the Midwest
Geshe Lhundub Sopa: Carrying Teachings from Tibet, is the newest resource in PBS Wisconsin Education’s popular Wisconsin Biographies collection!
When Geshe Lhundub Sopa was growing up in Tibet, he learned about the teachings of the Buddha and dreamed of becoming a Buddhist monk. His journey to becoming one was not easy. With support from his family and teachers, he achieved his goal, but invading Chinese troops forced him and many other Tibetans to leave their home. A renowned scholar of Buddhist Philosophy, he eventually came to the University of Wisconsin – Madison to teach, and founded the Deer Park Buddhist Center in Oregon, WI.
Designed for students in grades 3-6, the collection includes an animated video, a digital book, historical images, and extension activities. Educators can also access a quick-start chart and guide for the story.

Integrate Media Literacy with PBS Wisconsin Education
From identifying misinformation to understanding the latest viral trends, it’s important for students to think critically about how they consume and create media, and educators have an increasingly important role in helping them learn how.
PBS Wisconsin Education is offering a new webinar series to support educators in integrating media literacy into their practice.
- Media Literacy: Evaluating Online Information for Grades 6-12 on February 2. Explore ways to facilitate the analysis of online information and come away with resources available to implement in the classroom.
- Media Literacy for Grades 3-5 on March 22. Join a discussion on implementing media literacy in the classroom and develop strategies to teach students how to be savvy consumers of information and media.
- Playful Media Literacy in Early Learning on April 3. Learn about practical applications and gather ideas for media literacy. Hear from Madison Midvale Elementary 4K teacher Mary Eileen Hayes.
