GED and HSED Purpose
Wisconsin's High School Equivalency Program, administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), oversees the GED® test preparation, instruction, and testing process in Wisconsin. The GED® program provides individuals with an opportunity to earn a GED® test credential. In addition to the GED® test credential, the DPI also oversees the High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) programs. Earning a GED® test credential or an HSED can help individuals improve their chances to find work, increase earnings, and pursue additional education through technical colleges, universities, or training programs.
The DPI works in partnership with GED Testing Service, the Wisconsin Technical College System, and other state, community, county, and local partners to support instruction as well as GED® test preparation and testing to Wisconsinites across the state. The DPI provides leadership, technical assistance, training, professional development, and guidance. In addition, we are the credentialing agency, providing diplomas, transcripts, and verifications of high school equivalency completion.
