Food Science Equivalency Credit

 
The Department of Public Instruction is committed to expanding opportunities for students to meet graduation requirements. In 2010, Wisconsin released information about establishing local science equivalency credit to food science courses.

Informational Resources:

• State Superintendent's Family and Consumer Sciences-Science Equivalency Letter - State Superintendent's letter to district administrators announcing the availability for Family and Consumer Sciences teachers/departments applying for science equivalency graduation credit
• Family and Consumer Sciences-Science Task Force Report - The State Superintendent's Family and Consumer Sciences and Science Task Force Report which summarizes the work that led to establishing a science equivalency credit option for Family and Consumer Sciences courses.
• Family and Consumer Sciences courses approved for science equivalency credit are to meet high school graduation requirements. Currently, this approval doesn't guarantee that colleges or universities will accept it for admission purposes. We encourage teachers and/or students to negotiate individual agreements with colleges and universities to accept these credits for admission purposes. The Department of Public Instruction is continuing discussions with the University of Wisconsin System on how these equivalency credits may be accepted.
• Step by Step to Equivalent Credit - This is a step-by-step process districts can use to help guide them through the process of applying for science equivalency credit.
