The primary mission of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is to prepare students for FCS occupations and to teach students about FCS. FCS focuses on those aspects of FCS that affect every member of society, whereas preparation for FCS occupations focuses on the preparation of individuals to work in a variety of FCS fields.
Within the local school district and community, it is the FCS educator who must develop and nurture a comprehensive FCS program. The support base for the program should include former students, business employees/employers, informed educators, parents and all others who recognize that FCS education can improve the quality of life for the individual and well-being of the community.
The FCS education consultant and staff at the Department of Public Instruction offer major support to family and consumer sciences educators at all levels.
