Hold, Recall and Safety

Overview

In the event of a USDA Food product hold or recall, the Wisconsin USDA Foods Unit will notify SFA's via the State Emergency Notification System (SENS). Read the USDA Foods Recall Procedure for Wisconsin School Food Authorities (SFAs) to understand the SFAs responsibilities.

Commercial and Direct Diversion Products

The Wisconsin USDA Foods Unit is not directly involved in the procurement or purchasing of the SFA's commercial products. The WI USDA Foods Unit will not notify SFAs of commercial product recalls. Refer to the Recalls Section of the Bureau of School Nutrition's Food Safety Webpage for accurate and timely commercial product information.

State Emergency Notification System (SENS)

SENS provides critical information to alert SFAs of a USDA Foods hold or recall. A SENS test is administered yearly in October by the Wisconsin USDA Foods Unit to confirm SFAs' contact information in preparation for a true hold or recall.
