Student Homeless Program Association Begin & End Dates
Student Homeless Program Association Begin & End Dates: WISEdata
The Homeless Begin Date is a required field that identifies the first date within the current school year when a student is identified as homeless. Begin Date may or may not be the enrollment start date.
The Homeless End Date is only entered when the student is no longer homeless (is the date when a student secures permanent residence and is no longer identified as homeless) or at the end of the school year. This date must also be within the school year. Options include:
- the actual known date, within the current school year, when student’s homeless status ended,
- the last day of school for the current school year if the student experiences homelessness until the end of the school year, or
- the last day they received services (Exit Date) when the student leaves.
Homeless Begin/End Date Values
Submit both dates in MM/DD/YYYY format.
The important point about the time period submitted for the homeless program association is that two homeless records cannot overlap within the same school during a given school year.
Uses
Homeless data will be used to meet disaggregated data requirements of the United States Department of Education using the Education Data Exchange Network (EDEN). At a minimum, disaggregated enrollment, dropout, graduation, and assessment data will be provided. The primary purpose of the data will be to determine the status of the education of students experiencing homelessness in general and to evaluate the effectiveness of programs supported by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (under ESSA Title IX, Part A).
