WCCTS
Q: What does the acronym WCCTS mean?
A. Wisconsin Common Career Technical Standards. These standards are the "core" of all CTE Standards in Wisconsin. There are six of them and they are aligned to the National CCTC standards (12). Additional information can be found online by visiting the Wisconsin Common Career Technical Standards page.
Q: Does every lesson have a WCCTS standard along with a content standard?
A. Not necessarily. The standards are not curriculum. They are meant to be the core of the content taught in Career and Technical Education. Therefore, there is not a one-to-one match in terms of curriculum being taught.
General CTE
Q: If there is no Middle School CTE, where do these standards get taught?
A. The standards will begin in HS and incorporate MS Standards.
Q: Do any CTE standards appear on standardized tests?
A. Students will be taking the Smarter Balanced test through 8th grade and there will be connections to the CCSS Anchor Standards in History, Science, and Technical subjects. Students will be taking Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination (WKCE) tests in 9, 10, and 11 grades. The emphasis on those exams are college and career readiness.
Q: If we currently don't have a class to address standards, do we have to create a class?
A. Look at the matrix and determine what a quality program looks like.
Q: When will the NGSS be adopted?
A. The Next Generation Science Standards are not currently adopted by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and there is no timeline for adoption.

I would recommend using the Excel file to search keyword and phrases that may relate to your local curriculum as a way to locate standards, learning priorities, and performance indicators that may be associated with your classroom performance task activities. The excel file will help you to locate standards as you become more familiar with the revised academic connections. The standards listed above were referenced using a search for the keyword: "design". Electronic versions of the standards are available online at https://dpi.wi.gov/bit/standards.
