Summer EBT is a new U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) benefit program that will be offered in Wisconsin beginning Summer 2024 and is a partnership between the Wisconsin Departments of Health Services (DHS) and Public Instruction (DPI).

Summer EBT is an income-based program that helps eligible families buy food for their children during the summer. Families will get $120 in benefits for each child who qualifies. Families can use these benefits anywhere that FoodShare benefits are accepted, like most grocery stores, many convenience stores, and some farmer’s markets.

Most eligible families will get these benefits automatically, but some households will need to apply. This new program is available in addition to free meals that kids of all ages can get at summer meal sites in their communities.

Children are eligible for the program if:

  • Your child is school-aged and already participates in Foodshare (SNAP), W-2, the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), or an income-based Medicaid program; or if we know they are migrant, in foster care, or experiencing homelessness.
  • Your child attends a school that offers the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program, and the household income meets the requirements for free or reduced price school meals.
  • Your child attends a school that participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), and you submitted an Alternate Household Income Form to the school, and it was approved.

Household Application for Summer EBT

Most eligible students will automatically receive Summer EBT benefits and do not need to apply if they are receiving free or reduced price meals at their school.

However, there are some households with eligible students that will need to apply. The following link is the application for Summer EBT only.
