Second Year Request for One-Year Administrator License
A one-year administrator license allows a person to serve as an administrator at a school or district while completing an educator preparation program leading to a license for the administrative position.
This license must be requested by the employing school board and is valid for 1 year. The applicant must have been admitted to an approved program leading to a license for the administrative position. The applicant must submit a written plan to the department that explains how he or she will complete the program within two years. The written plan must be approved by the institution offering the approved program and the employing school board.
This license can be renewed for 1 time only for 1 year; at the end of that year the person must have completed an approved program leading to a license for the administrative position. Request for renewal must be submitted by the employing school board, along with a letter from the institution providing evidence that the applicant can complete the approved program in one additional year.
Except for school business administrator and program coordinator, applicant must hold or be eligible to hold a Wisconsin teaching or pupil services license. Applicant must have six semesters of teaching experience, or six semesters experience as a school psychologist, counselor, or social worker that includes at least 540 hours of successful classroom teaching experience.
Applicant who applies for a superintendent position must have a master’s degree or equivalent.
License Application Requirements
To apply for a one-year administrator license:
- Applicant who does not hold a Wisconsin teaching or pupil services license must complete PI-1612 Institutional Endorsement form, which provides information on completion of an educator preparation program for teaching, pupil services or administrator.
- Applicant must complete PI-1613 Employment Verification form, which provides information on six semesters of full-time teaching experience or six semesters of pupil services experience that includes at least 540 hours of successful classroom teaching experience.
- The employing school board must provide a written request.
- Applicant must provide a program plan, and a letter from the approved program that verifies the applicant’s enrollment and a plan to complete the program within two years of the first license issue date.
License Renewal Requirements
The one-year administrator license can only be renewed one time for one year. To renew the one-year administrator license:
- The employing school board must provide a written request.
- Applicant must include satisfactory evidence from the institution where the applicant is enrolled for an approved administrator program, that the program can be completed in one additional year.
